Bohemian Garnet Jewelry

Representing jewelry from Georgian or Biedermeier (1790 to 1848). During this period, wearing of jewelry was reserved for nobles and upper classes. Floral motifs, tendril shapes and ribbons were particularly popular. Along with the French Revolution, the hierarchy of the aristocracy came to an end. The bourgeois demonstrated their new position by wearing jewelry. Georgian or Biedermeier jewelry did not have its own style per se. Rather, romantic and other style nuances from past epochs were copied. Garnet jewelry, gleaming mystically in dark red became the symbol of a wealthy class of citizens. These historical forms and designs, enchanting with their dignity and beauty, still find popularity among enthusiasts and collectors.

All of our Bohemian Garnet jewelry contains genuine rose cut or cabochon cut garnets mined from Czechoslovakia that would make a special and unique gift for January's birthstone. The metal used is sterling with an antiqued (oxidized) finish or antiqued copper overlay for a rose gold appearance as an option on all styles. A special note on the copper overlay, if you are sensitive to metals you could have an allergic reaction and the surfaces in contact with your skin might leave a green smudge. If this is a concern, the sterling antiqued finish is recommended. E-mail if you have any specific questions about size and lengths. Expect a 2 to 3 week turn around time on this special order collection.
